Program Description

JoAnn Falletta opens the curtain on Ravel's vibrant La valse, an Impressionist masterwork of intoxicating rhythms and seductive timbres. The concert continues with the musical poetry of Paderewski's Piano Concerto in A minor, featuring the young Polish virtuoso Igor Lipinski at the keyboard. To close the concert, the BPO will offer the American premiere of the soulful Symphony No.3 by Marcel Tyberg, a Late-Romantic Austrian composer who became a tragic victim of the Holocaust. Tyberg's devout pen bears a heartful homage to mid-19th century styles, reflecting Mendelssohn, Chopin and Brahms, among others.
