Adult amateur musicians are invited to apply for the BPO Fantasy Camp - a day at Kleinhans Music Hall, rehearsing and performing alongside the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. The day culminates in a side-by-side concert conducted by Maestra JoAnn Falletta. Friends, family and community members are encouraged to come hear the final product at the end of this incredible day.
The Basics
Participation is determined on an application basis. Once you have been accepted, the tuition cost is $295*. With this tuition, you will receive:
• The opportunity to rehearse and perform with JoAnn Falletta and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra at Kleinhans Music Hall
• Sectional coachings with BPO musicians
• Additional opportunities to get to know Maestra Falletta and BPO musicians, as well as an optional guided behind-the-scenes tour of historic Kleinhans Music Hall
• Catered lunch at Kleinhans
• Discount on tickets for the July 26th Summer Nights at Kleinhans concert
*A portion of the tuition will be tax deductible.
Who should apply?
The BPO Fantasy Camp is an opportunity created for adult amateur musicians (25 years and older) to experience a day with the BPO. Perhaps you studied music in school and have recently dusted off your instrument and begun playing again. Maybe you have played in your community orchestra for years, or enjoy getting together with friends for chamber music. This experience is for you! If you participated last year in our inaugural BPO Fantasy Camp you may reapply, however preference will be given to new applications.
Why is the BPO offering this program?
This program was created with the belief that one of the best possible ways to engage our audience is by creating opportunities for active participation in music-making.
How many applicants will the BPO accept?
The BPO will accept the usual number of players for each instrument, according to a typical orchestra set-up. Our goal is to include as many participants as we can and still comfortably accommodate both BPO musicians and participants on the stage of Kleinhans Music Hall.
What is the repertoire for the rehearsal and concert?
Repertoire includes selections from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake Suite, Borodin's Polovtsian Dances, selections from Bizet's Carmen Suites and selections from Copland's Rodeo. Most music will be available to participants through an online link. Any pieces under copyright will be provided upon selection for participation.
How can I apply?
Our application process is all online. No audition is required. The deadline to apply is June 21st. Applicants will be notified no later than June 28th. Click here to apply!
2012 Fantasy Camp
35 participants joined the BPO in our inaugural Fantasy Camp last July including people from a variety of occupations and ages. The youngest participants were in their 20s and the oldest in their 70s. Everyone was brought together by their love of creating music.
